Students should wear their band polo with all black from the waist down. We will meet in the band and choir rooms at 6:30 prior to performance. See HERE for our program! 6th Concert Our combined 6th Grade Concert will be held on December 13 in the Hart Gym at 7PM. Students should arrive at 6:30, dressed nicely. There is no required uniform. Our rehearsal will be held during first hour that morning. Student are responsible for any work missed. Solo and Ensemble Students will be selecting music later this week. Some class time will be given to rehearse in December and January, but students should also plan to set up times to practice together outside of school. Performance times should be released soon after we come back in January. Pre-Festival Concerts All students will participate in Pre-Festival concerts in February! Make sure your calendars are marked for these fun performances where students will not only play onstage at Stoney, but will also get to hear some of the Stoney Creek bands perform. Supplies Students in need of reeds and other supplies can use THIS FORM or call A&G Central directly to have them delivered to Hart. I can provide some reeds in an emergency, but cannot be the main supplier of reeds for all students. Please help your student keep playing, especially with our upcoming performances, by ordering reeds before they run out of their current ones.

We're heading into one of our busier times of the year with first concerts coming up soon. Read on for more information. 7/8 Concert Our 7th and 8th Graders will be performing at 7PM in the SCHS Auditorium on December 6. Detroit Symphony Orchestra Honor Band Any 7th or 8th Grade Student interested in participating in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Middle School Honor Band on March 18, 2024 should fill out THIS FORM absolutely no later than November 29. Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble Come see Mrs. RO and Mrs. Stan perform with band directors and other musicians from around southeastern Michigan this Sunday, November 19 at 3PM at Clarkston High School! OU Woodwind Day Oakland University is hosting an all ages Woodwind Day on October 8. Please click HERE for more information and registration. Ear Protection With some larger classes in the 7th and 8th Grade Band and incredibly enthusiastic sounds at the 6th Grade Bands, several have inquired about utilizing hearing protection. This can be a great idea to protect ears in the long run and help those who may be overstimulated by all the sounds in the band room. While there are a lot of options out there, here are a couple I've used myself and found helpful in rehearsals without making things really stuffy and hard to hear. They can be ordered directly from the site and also found on Amazon. Earasers Loops Extra Help/Private Lessons Band is SO much more fun when students are able to play along and keep up with class. We have several options for students to get some extra help to increase their confidence or even seek out some new challenges.

We'll march to the field and stay in the stands with the band for the first half of the game. At halftime, 7th Graders will stay in the stands and the 8th Grade will head to the field to perform alongside the Cougar Marching Band for halftime. We know those first sounds are very enthusiastic. Please encourage your student to show you what they've learned this week! We've worked on proper assembly, posture, mouthpiece sounds, tonguing, three notes, and different rhythms. They would LOVE to share it all with you. The more your student plays the more success they're going to experience and the more fun they'll have. They are SO excited to take their instruments home and practice! Supplies: We're working on an order form for any supplies (reeds, silk swabs, valve oil, etc), but if your student is in need (many 6th graders playing alto sax or clarinet will need new reeds soon!), you can call and order directly through A&G Central and they will deliver on Tuesdays. Google Classroom: Have you and your student reviewed the Syllabus and Syllabus Acknowledgement Form in Google Classroom? Those are some of our first grades for the school year and grades will be updated soon. Instrument Use Agreement: ALL students using a Hart instrument must fill out THIS FORM. Students who do not have it filled out by September 15 will not be allowed to bring their instrument home again until it is completed. I hope everyone's summer is going well!
6th Grade Families should mark their calendars for August 30 for our instrument rental night! Families can rent an instrument from A&G Central Music in the cafeteria from 5-8 PM. Considering obtaining an instrument from an alternative source? Please see this document with some recommendations! Hart does have instruments available for student use, but please be aware that we have limited stock and students using a school instrument may not get their first choice. For everyone's planning purposes, here is the band calendar for the year so far! A lot of time has been asked of our band students and families and everyone's presence has been so appreciated. We've only got a couple of events left for the year! SCHS Registration Night All 8th Graders participating in concert and marching band at Stoney Creek need to attend this evening's registration night. Two emails have been sent with links to be completed prior to going tonight. Please check those for additional information! Harmony on the Hill See HERE for a flyer for the 6th Grade's final performance of the year! Students should meet in the SCHS Band room at 3:45 and we perform at 4:00. Students are free to leave when we're done but all are welcome to enjoy the food trucks and performances from other groups from around Rochester! Students are responsible for getting their own instruments to the performance and should then take them home for the year when we're done! SCHS Mini Camps 8th Grade students participating in SCHS Marching Band will attend Mini Camps after our three half days June 7-June 9. They should plan to leave their lunches and instruments in the band room and then walk across to Stoney when we get out. Instrument Return 7th Grade students not returning to band and 8th Grade students will return their Hart instruments this week. 6th Grade students not returning to band in the fall will return Hart instruments during their LAST day of band June 7, 8, or 9. A&G returns will also be collected on those days and the store will come pick them up. Private Lessons Summer lessons with a local professional are some of the best things any student can do to not only keep playing over the time off school, but to improve on their instrument. Whether a student needs help developing their confidence and catching up or needs an additional challenge, lessons are one of the best investments for a developing musician! Please check out THIS LIST for teacher information. Civic Youth Ensembles We have a lot of outstanding student musicians who should audition for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Civic Youth Ensembles! They provide an amazing opportunity to work with students from all over the metro Detroit area and DSO musicians. Please check THIS LINK for more information. Supplies Now is the time to order additional supplies to make sure your student is well stocked for the summer to keep playing and maintaining their instrument. The 7th Grade band will perform at 6:40 and should arrive, in uniform, by 6:15 to finish setting up. Students may leave after we're done playing. Hart/SCHS Orchestra Concert The 8th Grade Band will be combining with the Hart 8th Grade Orchestra at their spring concert on May 12. Students should arrive by 6:30 in uniform. We will have a combined rehearsal on May 8 from 2:30-3:30 to prepare. Students should make every effort to attend as it will be our only opportunity to practice together! Chamber Music Night ALL band students will be participating in Chamber Night on The Hill at SCHS on May 15. Students will sign up for a performance time within the 5-8PM block that night. Following the small group performances, the SCHS Jazz band will perform at 8:00. It's a fun and relaxed night of great student performances!
