Once again, it was really nice getting to meet so many of our families at conferences this week! 1st hour band families can contact Mrs. Staniszewski at [email protected] since she was unable to attend conferences due to conflicts with SCHS band performances.
Almost all of our students have been able to get videos posted through Google Classroom (GC) now! We're finding that for reasons unknown at this point (maybe device security settings?) videos from some students' personal devices will not load. Their best option is to submit the videos on an actual computer by loading it into their Google Drive or emailing themselves the video to attach. Students who are having issues with our school devices may need to try this option as well. Anyone resubmitting an assignment or turning one in late should email their teacher with "Google Classroom" in the subject line. We really appreciate everyone's patience and willingness to try this new technology to help our students be their best! 6th Grade Our next playing assignment is due on Friday, October 30. 6th Graders should be playing "Slurs and Dots" from their book. Ask your student to explain some of the new skills and rhythms we've learned in this line. There's a lot going on in this one and having them share their understanding with you can really help to reinforce their learning. 7th Grade We were able to run down all of our December pieces on Friday for the first time. The students will agree that there's still a lot of work to be done, but it was also great to hear how far they've already come in a short time. Solo and Ensemble (S&E) information went home with students this week. S&E is a great opportunity for students to perform as soloists or in small ensembles for an expert on their instrument. All forms and money are due NO LATER than October 30. No late registrations will be accepted. Students' second practice reflection was due this week. These will be weekly assignments, so please make sure your student is staying on top of them. The Eb scale is due today as well. 8th Grade We're really excited to be a part of this week's upcoming pep assembly! Students have been doing some refresher on Don't Stop Believin' as well as working on the music for our December concert. Our Friday run through revealed quite a few places where some practice is definitely needed, but our progress so far has been impressive! Solo and Ensemble (S&E) information went home with students this week also. S&E is a great opportunity for students to perform as soloists or in small ensembles for an expert on their instrument. All forms and money are due NO LATER than October 30. No late registrations will be accepted. Keep an eye out on our social media pages for some clips from the assembly on Friday!

It was so nice to meet so many of our Band Families at conferences last week. Thank you all for your patience with the line! All classes have had assignments due through Google Classroom (GC). Most of the bugs have been figured out and it's been a wonderful tool to hear students play and share thoughts individually! After some discussion with colleagues and families, here are some a few tips to help things continue to improve:
All 6th Grade band students have now received their first two pieces of sheet music for our December concert! Students can listen to recordings for reference while practicing on the 6th Grade tab. Please continue to encourage your student to practice at home and share their learning with you! 7th Grade Students' first practice reflection was due two weeks ago and their next one is due this coming Friday through GC. Students should be sharing how the goal they set has been going and setting a new practice goal to focus on. With all our music in hand for the December concert, there's plenty to be working on! Links to examples for our pieces can be found under the 7th Grade tab. Also, any student interested in submitting a new band shirt design idea needs to bring in their graphic Monday! 8th Grade 8th Grade has been settling into a regular concert rehearsal routine after the excitement of the SCHS football game. We've got all but one of our December concert pieces and have already had some very cool sounding moments with them! Listening examples can be found under the 8th Grade tab. Students in all bands have now had assignments due through Google Classroom (GC). If doing assignments at home is not an option, students need to make arrangements to use a school device to complete their work. It has been a lot of fun going through 6th and 7th Grade practice reflections so far! Hearing students summarize their work so far in their own words and set goals has provided some great insight into our students perspectives on band.
6th Grade Students are making their way through their band book quickly! Hopefully you're able to hear some recognizable tunes when they practice at home. Ask them to play something for you! It's a great way to encourage them and they love showing off their new skills. Students will be receiving their first piece of sheet music this week to begin preparing for our December 10 performance. This will definitely test their stamina levels, so please continue to encourage them to practice at home! 7th Grade Students have received their first piece of music for our December 3 performance and should be getting several more over the next couple weeks. We've been enjoying getting to hear the ensemble working on different parts and have already had some really nice sounding moments. The challenges in these pieces would be great to include as goals in students' weekly practice reflections! 8th Grade WHAT AN AWESOME JOB ON FRIDAY NIGHT! Check the Twitter feeds for our bands as well as the Stoney Creek band (@SCHSBands) for some pictures and video from the night. Mrs. Staniszewski and I were so proud of everyone's performance and we hope you all had as much fun as we did. It's time to officially switch gears now in preparation for our December 3 concert. Students have also received sheet music with several more to come in the next couple of weeks. Please encourage your student to practice these pieces at home so that we're able to have efficient rehearsals in school. October is here and all the bands are settling into the daily routine nicely! It's great getting to make music together!
6th Grade All of our students can put their instruments together quickly on their own now! This may not seem like much, but it's a huge step in making sure that we get to play as much as possible in class. Our first practice reflection and playing test are due through Google Classroom this week. Students who are unable to access this at home need to make arrangements to do their recordings in the first couple minutes of class or before/after school. 7th Grade Students' first practice reflections and playing tests are also due soon through Google Classroom. Students who are unable to access this at home need to make arrangements to do their recordings in the first couple minutes of class or before/after school. We've gotten our first piece of sheet music for the December concert and are working together as a class to finish our selections. 8th Grade It's a big week for the 8th Grade Band! We've been working hard for this week's performance and are really excited for it! The rehearsal schedule for Monday night and performance schedule for Friday can be found HERE. Students should just dress in regular clothes for Monday. Friday's uniform will be band polo, black pants, socks, shoes. Students may wear layers under their polo, but Friday will hopefully be warm enough that jackets won't be necessary and we can all show our Hart Band pride! It is however, October in Michigan so we'll keep an eye on the weather forecast and adjust accordingly. |
