May 10-Hart's Alive (7th and 8th) May 11-6th Grade Band Concert at Hart May 17-7th/8th Concert at SCHS May 22-Chamber Music Night at Rochester Municipal Park (ALL GRADES) Congratulations to the 7th Grade Band on earning an overall 1st Division Rating at State Band Festival on Saturday!!!!! You should be proud of how you dug in and got the work done to have a successful performance. Keep working at that high level! It's going to put you in place for some great opportunities as you continue your musical path. THANK YOU to all the people who made this crazy but exciting week possible. From the parents and family members who spent the day with the 6th Grade Band on our Detroit Symphony Orchestra Field trip, to Mr. Hallman and Mr. Wojtowicz for learning with us over the last marking period, to the secretaries who helped keep things for two field trips in three days organized, to Mr. Fitts for his time working with the 7th Grade Band to prepare for State Festival. We couldn't have done it without all of you! Hart's Alive 7th and 8th Grade students will be performing at Hart's Alive on May 10. This will be a short performance with 7th grade starting at 7:10 and should wrap up for both groups around 7:45. Students should wear their band uniform for this performance. 6th Grade Band Concert The 6th Grade will be performing at 7PM at Hart in the gym on May 11. Students should please dress nicely and arrive by 6:30 to set up. 7th and 8th Concert 7th and 8th Grade band will be performing at 7PM at Stoney Creek on May 17. Students should wear their band uniform and arrive by 6:30. Chamber Night ALL band students will be performing at Chamber Night on May 22 at the Rochester Park. Sign up times will be made available as we get closer to the event. Reeds and Other Supplies Please don't try and stretch those last couple of reeds or drops of valve oil through the end of the year! Old reeds are very hard to play well on and can become a very gross breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria. With a quick call to one of our local vendors (Anderson's, A&G, or Hewitt's), you can have any supplies delivered to the school when our reps make their weekly visits. Plus, you'll need them for practicing over the summer to be ready for the next year of awesome! Private Lessons Speaking of playing over the summer, along with the great FREE program we have available with SCHS for tutoring, we're fortunate to live in an area with outstanding professional private teachers as well. If you're interested, please see the information posted in Important Documents to get in touch with a private instructor. ALL students can benefit from the expertise of a specialist in their instrument and it can be a great way to improve your skills for the fall! 8th Grade Band Students and families are encouraged to start keeping up with Mrs. Staniszewski's updates on the SCHS Band site and join the SCHS Band Facebook Group to stay informed on summer dates and upcoming events.
