Upcoming Events:
December 8-6th Grade Concert in Hart Gym December 12-7th and 8th Grade Concert in SCHS Auditorium 6th Grade Band Concert Students should arrive by 6:30 on Dec. 8 to allow time for set up so that we can start the performance on time. We're asking that students dress nicely for the concert. Please no jeans, sweatpants, t-shirts, etc if at all possible. Students will be rehearsing together during first hour that day and know they are responsible for any work missed. 7th and 8th Grade Concert Students should arrive at STONEY CREEK by 6:30 wearing their band polo with all black bottoms. Sections will be marked for the bands to sit in during the performance. Students will be going across the street to rehearse during 2nd AND 3rd hour in the morning on December 12 to rehearse. We need time to work out logistics of the performance and have the groups practice together for their combined piece. FREE Lessons Information regarding FREE lessons with Stoney Creek band students was posted in Google Classroom. It's highly encouraged for our musicians to take advantage of this great opportunity, especially if they are struggling! Band is a lot more fun when you can play along with everybody in class. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Rever. Solo and Ensemble After our concert, time will be given in class to allow groups to finalize music selections and practice together before we leave for Break. Performance times will likely be released mid-January. Students should make plans to practice with their other group members at least a time or two over Break to keep things fresh. January 28 will come up quickly after we come back! Band Festival Registration was sent in last week and I requested March 2 or March 3. While the requests do not guarantee anything, please make sure these evenings are marked in your calendars. As soon as MSBOA releases our dates and times, they'll be shared here and on our social media pages. End of Marking Period 2 No MP2 assignments will be accepted after January 20. Please also remember that any work directly related to our December concerts will not be accepted after the performances. Many students still have to complete listening and practice assignments posted in Google Classroom that are meant to help their preparation for our concerts.

Upcoming Concerts
December 8-Sixth Grade Band at Hart DECEMBER 12-Seventh and Eighth Grade Bands at SCHS (please note the date correction...again) Performance Dates In preparing for our 7th/8th concert, it was pointed out to me that December 15 is the date of Stoney Creek's choir concert. After some investigating, it was discovered that dates were reserved at both Hart and Stoney for the concert and that the original date of December 12 that I published was actually correct. Our concert will be on MONDAY, DECEMBER 12 at Stoney Creek. I apologize for any confusion and inconvenience this has caused. Free Lesson Program All of our students are encouraged to take advantage of the free lesson program with a Stoney Creek band student. Practicing with an older student has made a huge impact on many students and can really provide struggling students with the additional support they need. Additional information is posted in Google Classroom. Please contact your student's teacher if you have questions. Brass and Percussion Supplies Trumpet, trombone, and percussion students were given an order form last week to purchase additional supplies. These supplies can also be purchased outside of school, but the ability to order through A&G is being offered to save a trip and some time. Brass players are encouraged to get their own mutes and percussionists should start acquiring their own mallets. While this is not a requirement, it is very much encouraged to help prepare students for additional music requirements as they continue to progress. Welcome to Quarter 2!
Upcoming Concerts December 8-Sixth Grade Concert in the Hart Gym at 7PM December 15 (please note the date correction)-Seventh and Eighth Concert at STONEY CREEK at 7PM Supply Order Forms 7th and 8th Grade trumpet, trombone, and percussion players will be given an order form to purchase additional supplies for their instruments. Brass players will be regularly using mutes in all their music and would benefit from having their own to use for the duration of their playing careers. Percussionists should also start obtaining and using their own sticks and mallets. While these purchases are absolutely not required, they will certainly help our musicians be better prepared for whatever our music calls for in the future. Forms and payment are due by November 18 for any students interested. Reeds A reminder that all clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon players should be rotating their reeds regularly. We've seen some pretty damaged and moldy (yes, MOLDY!) reeds come through lately. Not only do these negatively impact students' ability to make accurate sounds, but they are dangerous to their overall health. It is also recommended that students occasionally wash their mouthpieces with warm (NOT BOILING) water and soap to clear out any build up. To save a trip, reeds can be ordered from A&G or Anderson's and will be delivered to Hart. If you have questions about reeds, please contact your student's teacher. Breaking Winds Our trip to Adams High School to see the Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet is this Friday! All students are reminded to pack a lunch that day as we will be missing some if not all of the lunch periods. |
