September 25-Rehearsal with SCHS Marching Band, 6PM (7 and 8 only) September 29-SCHS Home Game 7PM (7 and 8 only) 7th and 8th with SCHS: Monday, September 25 we will have a combined rehearsal for 8th Grade and any interested 7th Graders to practice with the Stoney Creek Marching Band at 6PM. We should be done around 7:45. On Friday, September 29 all 8th Graders and any interested 7th Graders will meet at 6PM in the choir room. We'll march to the field and stay in the stands with the band for the first half of the game. At halftime, 7th Graders will stay in the stands and the 8th Grade will head to the field to perform alongside the Cougar Marching Band for halftime. A timeline for both rehearsal and the performance can be found HERE. Band Apparel Our online store is open for band apparel! 7th and 8th Graders all need a band polo for performances. There is no uniform requirement for 6th grade but all are welcome to purchase a shirt to show their band pride! Please use this link to purchase. Solo and Ensemble Information for Solo and Ensemble on January 20 at Rochester High School was shared this week for 7th and 8th Grade. ALL 7th and 8th Graders are highly encouraged to participate in this event! Information can also be found under Important Documents. OU Woodwind Day Oakland University is hosting an all ages Woodwind Day on October 8. Please click HERE for more information and registration. Supplies If your student is in need of: swab, oil, reeds, cork grease, etc, you can contact A&G directly or use the order form under the Important Documents tab. Most 6th Grade alto saxophone and clarinet players are about done with their first reed or two and will need new ones very soon. Ear Protection With some larger classes in the 7th and 8th Grade Band and incredibly enthusiastic sounds at the 6th Grade Bands, several have inquired about utilizing hearing protection. This can be a great idea to protect ears in the long run and help those who may be overstimulated by all the sounds in the band room. While there are a lot of options out there, here are a couple I've used myself and found helpful in rehearsals without making things really stuffy and hard to hear. They can be ordered directly from the site and also found on Amazon. Earasers Loops Extra Help/Private Lessons Band is SO much more fun when students are able to play along and keep up with class. We have several options for students to get some extra help to increase their confidence or even seek out some new challenges.
Tuning Site Students can access Bandmate Chromatic Tuner through their Chromebooks now. This site can be helpful not only for tuning, but checking pitch accuracy for young brass players.
