It was a little cold and a little damp, but 8th Grade had a lot of fun performing with Stoney Creek at Homecoming on Friday night! It's not too early to start thinking about high school band and we hope all of our 8th Graders got a good idea of the great things they can be a part of with marching band.
Assignments 6th Grade had their first practice reflection assigned on Sept 21 and it was due on Sept 28. MANY have still not completed this assignment. Those having difficulties submitting their assignment should seek help from their teacher or a friend on Monday. Students are welcome to bring their personal technology in for help or can work with their teacher to use school tech. These assignments are not only important for students' personal growth but for teachers to get a better idea of individual progress. We're about halfway through the first marking period already and every assignment counts! Families who want to get updates from Google Classroom should see the information about Guardian Summaries through GC below. 7th Grade has a playing test due Tuesday, October 2 with many not submitted yet either. Supplies We're running into an issue of many students playing on old and broken reeds. Not only does this impact students' ability to successfully play, but it can be dangerous for student health. Reeds should be replaced regularly and all students who need them should have several available for back up. To save a trip, they can be purchased through A&G, Anderson's, or Hewitt's and will be delivered to Hart. Students who have lost their book are responsible for replacing them. We order only one per student to start the school year. Extras can be ordered and delivered through the companies listed above as well. 6th Grade Detroit Symphony Orchestra Information and permission slips went home with 6th graders this week. Additional copies of the letter and blank permission slips can be found under the Important Documents tab here on our site. All permission slips and money must be turned in by October 5! Rochester Youth Ensembles The Rochester band and orchestra teachers are excited to once again offer the Rochester Youth Ensembles this fall! This is an exciting and fun opportunity for our musicians to perform with other students from around the district and work with outstanding guest conductors. Please see this flyer for more information. Register soon through RCS Enrichment! 8th Grade Cleveland Trip We currently have 14 signed up for our trip, but can't make it happen without at least 50 (students and chaperones)! One week down, 39 to go! :)
With requests for patience and promises to continue improving from here, 6th Graders went home able to make sounds on mouthpieces this weekend! It was loud and crazy, but a lot of FUN! Please encourage your student to play often. The more they do, the faster they'll progress and learn how to control and improve their sound.
