It's been a quite a week!
6th Grade Students created their own rhythms with small groups two weeks ago and we started sharing them this past week. It's been a good experience for both the composers of the day and the class to work together to figure out the new patterns. We're getting excited for our Detroit Symphony Orchestra trip on March 10! 7th and 8th Grade We've been doing some cross country collaborating this week! 8th Grade exchanged recordings of Country Wildflowers with an 8th Grade group in California to compare and give each other feedback. We also sent recordings over to groups out in Washington (state) that they gave feedback on. They'll be sending us their recordings next week. It's been really cool to connect with other student musicians and have some fresh ears listen to our Festival pieces! Since Mother Nature waited until our Pre-Festival Concert to dump some winter on us, the 8th Grade's concert has been rescheduled for March 2. This will be an important dress-rehearsal to get a feel for performing on stage. We understand that schedules can be difficult to adjust with such little notice, but really hope all students can attend this performance. (it looks like they're predicting the chance of another significant snow this week, so feel free to break out some ANTI-snow dances!) We really hope our 7th and 8th Grade Band Families will come join us at Roseville Middle School to cheer the groups on!

I know it always seems this way, but we're coming into another super busy time of year for the bands! Please make sure you've got our concert dates marked on your calendars. The schedule can be found under Important Documents.
6th Grade All Detroit Symphony Orchestra permission slips and money are due MONDAY, February 22. Information letters and blank permission slips can be found under the Important Documents tab and on Google Classroom. At this point the chaperone waiting list stands at twelve people. Once everything is handed in and sorted out, additional chaperones will be taken if there is space. The cost of the trip is $30 per attendee. We REALLY hope all of our 6th graders take advantage of this opportunity to hear a world class symphony orchestra right in our own back yard! 7th and 8th Grade We were happy to welcome Dr. Joe Shively from Oakland University this week to work with our groups and help us continue to prepare for Band Festival! Information letters and permission slips for Band Festival went home with students about two weeks ago. Many students still have not turned in their permission slips and need to get them turned in ASAP. The 8th Grade will be performing at Stoney Creek High School as a part of their Pre-Festival performance this Wednesday. All students should arrive in uniform by 6:30 so that they have time to drop off their equipment in the choir room before the concert starts at 7:00. All students are responsible for getting their instrument and music to SCHS. We will use Stoney Creek's percussion equipment, but percussionists will have to bring necessary mallets and music. Things are moving right along as we make our way through February and we've got exciting events coming up for ALL groups!
Please make sure your student has enrolled in their new Google Classroom for the second semester. New class codes can be found to the right of this post, on the grade level tabs, or on the syllabus handed out at the beginning of the semester. 6th Grade All 6th Graders received information about our March 10 Detroit Symphony Orchestra field trip! Copies of the information letter can be found under the Important Documents tab. Chaperones wishing to attend should send their payment along with their student's to hold their spot and please fill out the ICHAT background check form on the back of the permission slip. Please contact your student's band teacher if you have additional questions. 7th and 8th Grade Congratulations to our 7th and 8th Grade performers on a job well done at MSBOA District 16's annual Honors Band this past week! Anna, Eden, Charlotte, and Brian represented Hart Bands well and we're proud of their performance! Band Festival letters and permission slips went home with students this week. Please make sure to get permission slips turned in ASAP. Both groups are performing at Roseville Middle School on March 4. Additional information can be found under the Important Documents tab. We were fortunate to have Mr. David Fitts, an experienced educator and MSBOA judge, come and work with us on Thursday! He gave some great insights and feedback as we continue to prepare for Band Festival. We'll be welcoming an Oakland University professor on Tuesday to assist us as well! The 8th Grade will be joining Stoney Creek's bands in a Pre-Festival concert on February 24. Welcome to Semester 2! The second half of the year will be even busier than the first half! Please make sure that you've got our dates on your calendars. The schedule can be found under the Important Documents tab here on the site.
Because of the large number of students switching classes around and to have a fresh start on the new semester, ALL students need to enroll in new Google Classrooms. To do this, they should go to classroom.google.com, click the plus sign up near their name, select "join class" and enter their new code. Codes can be found on the right side of this page, on their grade level tabs on this site, and on the syllabus that went home last week. Assignments have been posted for all groups, so please make sure to get this done ASAP. 6th Grade We now have two pieces of sheet music in our folders with more to come! We have also been talking with all 6th Graders about setting goals that challenge them to improve in their weekly practice reflections. Please encourage your student to keep working at these and turning them in regularly to help them continue to improve! After many delays, letters and permission slips for our Detroit Symphony Orchestra trip on March 10 will be coming home very soon. We're very excited about this trip and sorry for any confusion caused with the information not being sent home yet! Keep an eye out for it in the coming week. 7th and 8th Grade Band Festival times have now been finalized. Both bands will be performing at Roseville Middle School on March 4. The 7th Grade plays at 4:55 and the 8th Grade plays at 8:40. Letters with additional information and permission slips will be coming home ASAP. We hope that our band families will make the trip down that evening in support of the bands! Seeing friendly faces in the crowd can do a lot to help with the jitters of performing in a new venue! In preparation for Festival, we have guest coming to work with both groups on February 12 and February 16 during school. The 8th Grade will also be performing as a part of Stoney Creek's Pre-Festival concert on February 24. Finally, don't forget that the Student Council's Food Drive continues Monday and Tuesday this week. Please consider helping families in need in our community by donating non-perishable food items and toiletries! |
